What is Ethereum? How can you use Ethereum in your everyday life? How do you use an Ethereum decentralized app (DApp)? These are the types of questions that newcomers might have.

Rather than trying to tell you what Ethereum is all about, we’re going to let other people do the hard work! Here are the eight best Ethereum tutorials for beginners.

1. Cryptocurrency: Complete Bitcoin, Ethereum, Altcoins

The “Cryptocurrency: Complete Bitcoin, Ethereum, Altcoins” course on Udemy is designed for complete novices. It assumes you have almost no knowledge of the crypto world and how it works.

As such, it’s not only an Ethereum tutorial; it also explains the differences between Ethereum and Bitcoin, as well as the many altcoins. Without having a rudimentary knowledge of the other important tokens, you will struggle to understand Ethereum’s place in the wider crypto sector. The eight-hour video course has 74 separate lectures.

Because the course is on Udemy, you will have to pay a fee to access it. The full price is $200, but you can frequently find discounts of as much as 95 percent.

2. TutorialsPoint Ethereum Tutorial

The TutorialsPoint Ethereum Tutorial is designed to give inexperienced crypto developers a complete overview of Ethereum smart contracts.

Because the course is primarily aimed at coders, it assumes you have a working knowledge of web development, JavaScript, Ajax-Requests, AngularJS, Gulp/Grunt, and Node Package Manager. By the time you’ve completed the course, you should have an intermediate level of understanding.

You’ll find 18 sections in the course. It covers how to create Ethereum contracts, how to deploy them, how to add users to Ethereum contracts, how to use MyEtherWallet (MEW), and a whole lot more. There are plenty of screenshots to help guide you through the various processes.

3. DApp University: How to Build Ethereum DApp

DApp University is a popular YouTube channel for anyone who wants to learn how to build decentralized apps on the Ethereum blockchain.

In truth, we’d recommend taking a look at all their videos, but the one that stands out for beginners is “How to Build Ethereum DApp (Decentralized Application Development Tutorial)”. It’s an hour and a half long, so it’s not a quick watch. But it covers all the essential things that you need to know if you want to get your DApp live.

Again, the video assumes you have some existing coding knowledge. If you don’t, check out the best programming tutorials on our sister-site, MakeUseOf.

4. What Is Ethereum (ETH)? A Crypto Coin Study

If you’re new to crypto, you might not have a full understanding of what exactly Ethereum is. Sure, it’s a cryptocurrency, but what else? What is Ethereum’s price history like? How doe Ethereum work? What’s in the Ethereum whitepaper?

These are the questions that we’ve answered in the Ethereum coin study on Blocks Decoded. It’s not a long read, but it will give you a grounding in Vitalik Buterin’s creation.

5. What Is Ethereum? A Platform to Decentralize the World

“What Is Ethereum? A Platform to Decentralize the World” is a course on Edureka. It gives a basic overview on what Ethereum is, how Ethereum works, and why its development holds so much long-term potential.

The tutorial is divided into eight parts. They cover the entry-level information that Ethereum beginners need to know, including smart contracts, DApps, Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), some of the most exciting projects currently using Ethereum, and what Ethereum will be used for in the future.

The text-based course is free to download and read.

6. Ethereum Tutorial—A Deeper Look Into Ethereum

Ethereum Tutorial---A Deeper Look Into Ethereum

Ethereum Tutorial—A Deeper Look Into Ethereum is another free course on Edureka. The course has been put together by one of the company’s research analysts who’s an expert in Ethereum, cybersecurity, and cryptography. It builds on some of the themes introduced in the previous “What Is Ethereum” course.

The five primary focus points of the Ethereum tutorial are:

  • Ethereum Accounts
  • Ethereum Virtual Machine
  • The Ethereum Network
  • Ether and Gas
  • Ethereum Mining

7. Ethereum.wiki

Ethereum.wiki is a free online wiki run by Ethereum experts. It is officially endorsed by Vitalik Buterin and his team.

The site covers a complete spectrum of Ethereum tutorials. You will find everything from the basic entry-level content that newcomers need, right through to the how-to guides for the latest cutting-edge developments in Ethereum development.

If you’re an Ethereum beginner, we’d recommend checking out the extensive glossary, the Ethereum Introduction section, the FAQs, and the Uses: DAOs and DApps chapter. They are the best places to get started.

8. What’s New in Eth2

What's New in Eth2 newsletter

What’s New in Eth2 is an official Ethereum newsletter. It covers the latest news and developments in the Ethereum world and includes dozens of links to external Ethereum tutorials and learning resources.

The newsletter started life back in October 2018. It’s published every two or three weeks on average, but there are occasionally longer breaks and more frequent updates.

All past editions are available in the site’s sidebar, so if you’re an Ethereum beginner, we’d recommend starting with the very first issue and working through them all in sequence.

Which Is the Best Ethereum Tutorial?

It’s hard to definitively choose a “best” Ethereum tutorial. Much depends on what you want to learn, as well as the type of content you find easiest to digest.

One thing is sure, however. If you use all eight resources we have discussed in this piece, you won’t be a beginner anymore by the time you’ve finished!
