Blockchain technology is still emerging. Despite the youth of the industry, there are several ways you can certify your knowledge of blockchain technology. Aside from cryptocurrencies and ICOs, blockchain tech has a bright future and is one of the fastest-growing global technology sectors.

Although not always necessary, certifying your blockchain expertise could help secure your first blockchain job. So, here are five of the best blockchain certifications you can grab right now.

1. Blockchain Council Certified Blockchain Expert

The Blockchain Council’s Certified Blockchain Expert gives you a chance to certify your blockchain knowledge over three tiers: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. The levels cover a wide range of blockchain technology, culminating in a short exam to receive the certification.

  • Basic. The entry-level Basic tier covers blockchain essentials, the benefits of blockchain tech, different blockchain technologies, blockchain ecosystems, and more.
  • Intermediate. The Intermediate level looks at private and public blockchains, consensus algorithms, blockchain mining, if you can hack a blockchain, and more.
  • Advanced. The Advanced section covers blockchain architectures in greater detail, smart contracts, and building private blockchains.
  • Use-Cases. The final section on Use-Cases explores practical uses for blockchain technology, such as in healthcare, cybersecurity, supply-chains, and more.

The course culminates with an exam. You must score 60+ marks out of a potential 100 to receive the blockchain certification. The Blockchain Council gives you three chances to pass the exam.

The IIB Council’s Certified Blockchain Professional is a course aiming to give “full-stack developers a comprehensive and complete understanding of blockchain.” In that, the Certified Blockchain Professional course covers a broad blockchain syllabus, from basic blockchain understanding through to advanced blockchain development techniques.

The Certified Blockchain Professional course covers four phases:

  • Phase 1: Blockchain Fundamentals. The first part of the course looks at the basics of blockchain technology, including crypto mining, sustainable blockchain, open-source blockchain frameworks, and more.
  • Phase 2: Applications of Blockchain Technology. The second section of the Certified Blockchain Professional Course covers Ethereum, DApps, AI and blockchain, industry use-cases, and more.
  • Phase 3: Blockchain Project Implementation. Section three of the course explores implementing blockchain technology in your projects, including how to build private networks with Ethereum and Solidity (the programming language of Ethereum), how to write smart contracts, and more.

While this is a Foundation certification, it links to other IBM-specific certifications.

The Foundations of IBM Blockchain Platform V1 course has four sections:

  • Section 1: Blockchain for Business Concepts. The first section introduces key blockchain concepts relating to businesses, the differences between a blockchain and centralized database system, outlines of Hyperledger Fabric, Hyperledger Composer, and more.
  • Section 2: Blockchain Architecture Concepts. The second part of the course looks at blockchain solution architectures, how transactions work from start to finish, chaincode design principles, how to select a programming and design language for a blockchain, and identity and privacy concerns for IBM blockchain solutions.
  • Section 3: IBM Blockchain Platform Business Considerations. The third section explores practical business considerations regarding blockchain technology, the pros and cons of using the IBM Blockchain Platform (IBP), the various deployment and integration options, support channels, and much more.
  • Section 4: IBM Blockchain Platform Build Principles. The final section covers how to design a blockchain architecture, describing and utilizing IBP assets, how to secure and manage identities on a blockchain, blockchain migration strategies, and much more.

The final IBM Blockchain Platform Build Principles section is an in-depth examination of IBM Blockchain Platform strategy, development, and deployment.

Once you complete your studies, you can take the 60-question test. To pass, you must score 44 or more in the 90-minute test. If you pass the IBM Blockchain Platform V1 course, you can apply to become an IBM Certified Solution Advisor, which is a specialized blockchain-focused role at IBM.

4. Blockchain Council Certified Blockchain Architect

The Blockchain Council’s Certified Blockchain Architect course is an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of various blockchain architectures. The course covers several areas of blockchain architecture, as well as the tools you require to build a blockchain, develop network nodes, and implement a blockchain solution.

The Blockchain Council Certified Blockchain Architect course covers four sections:

  • Blockchain Architecture Basics. The first section covers essentials such as how blockchain technology works, how it differs from other similar technology, and how blockchain decision-making processes work, such as technical approaches, network configuration, and so on.
  • Tools Required for Blockchain Architecture. The Blockchain Training Alliance Certified Blockchain Security Professional is slightly different from the other blockchain certifications on this list. Where the other blockchain certifications focus on architecture and implementation of blockchain technology, the Certified Blockchain Security Professional course takes a close look at blockchain security.

The Blockchain Training Alliance Certified Blockchain Security Professional course covers 12 sections. Unlike the other courses, I’m not going to explore every section. However, here is the course outline:

The exam comprises 70-questions, of which you must score at least 70-percent to pass and receive your blockchain certification.

Do You Need a Blockchain Certification?

There are not many official blockchain certifications available. Most people developing and implementing blockchain technology come from different backgrounds. For example, many were already programmers, developers, software engineers, and so on. Making the switch into blockchain technology, then, was a progressive step.
